Summary

  • Clinical Academic

    You are likely to be working across clinical and educational settings, and may be in a jointly appointed post, combining research with clinical practice. Championing your area of research expertise, you will make a growing contribution to the research income and outputs of both the health/social care organisation and school. You will contribute to changes in clinical practice at a local and national level using research and knowledge generated and disseminated independently and innovatively. Using research to provide solutions to issues of importance to patients and nurses and you will demonstrate the impact of research on patient outcomes and experiences. You will lead the development of evidence-based policies and protocols to improve outcomes and experiences for patients and contribute to comissioning and service development. You will be responsible for the supervision and line-management of junior team members and post graduate researchers within the specialist area ensuring compliance with strict legal regulatory and ethical frameworks. You will take a lead on developing the research capacity and capability within the clinical nursing team.
  • Clinical Researcher

    You are likely to be working in a clinical trials setting. You will be providing direct clinical care to patients as part of your role and supervising other team members. Acting as an expert resource for colleagues, participants and patients you will take a lead role in the management of research studies including ethical approvals processes. You will be actively involved in local and national networks. Your role will include responsibility for gathering and inputting data and ensuring that the team operates within legal, regulatory and ethical frameworks. You will take a lead role in the development and implementation of local policies relating to the care of patients and research. You will contribute to financial processes relating to trials and the department and be actively involved in grant applications and act as an expert resource in the financial management of clinical research studies. You will build a team of clinical research nurses and be responsible for the line management, supervision, training and development of team members.
  • Academic Researcher

    Your role is likely to be in a higher education institution. You will implement and maintain a personal research strategy providing advice and expertise to others in relation to this area. You will plan and develop innovative research activity independently or as part of a team and will establish a national reputation for high quality research. You will manage plan and develop research projects using different methodologies and evaluation and analysis tools and techniques appropriately.Your work will bring new knowledge, insights and understanding. You will sustain publications in peer reviewed journals and dissemination of findings at conferences and other events. You may undertake teaching and / or curricular activities within the School. You will identify sources of research funding and take a lead on developing bids and securing funds. You may be responsible for the supervision and line management of the research team.

General qualifications

    • Clinical Academic

      • You will have a first degree in nursing and a research focused masters level qualification.
      • You will have or be working towards a PhD level qualification
      • You will have additional clinical qualifications related to your chosen field
      • You will have or be working towards (ICH) Good Clinical Practice award
    • Clinical Researcher

      • You will have a degree in nursing and be working towards a masters level qualification
      • You will have or be working towards post graduate qualifications in research
      • You will have additional clinical qualifications related to your chosen field
      • You will have or be working towards Good Clinical Practice (ICH) award
    • Academic Researcher

      • You will have or be working towards a first degree in nursing and a research focused masters level qualification
