Summary

The Neonatal Sister works as an expert practitioner and is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based, patient -focused care, working collaboratively with families and carers to address the complex and changing health and wellbeing needs of the neonate. The Neonatal Sister will:

  • ensure the delivery of high quality, safe and effective evidence-based care of the neonate and family;
  • work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team and external agencies to ensure continuity of care and smooth transition or discharge from the neonatal unit;
  • ensure systems are in place to ensure the safe delegation of care, monitoring and supervising the performance of team members;
  • responsible for the effective and efficient management of resources and budgets;
  • oversee the build and development of the neonatal service workforce based on service need;
  • foster a culture of continuous improvement in the service.

Education, Training and Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Nursing or Midwifery
  • ENB 405 or equivalent
  • Teaching and assessing in clinical practice (eg ENB 998/ Slice, C&G 730 or equivalent)
  • Educated to a minimum of 1st degree level or able to demonstrate evidence that working towards
  • Qualifications and training in Leadership and Management
  • Additional qualifications in the care of the neonate (eg: ENB 405 Neonatal transport course, Neonatal advanced life support or equivalents)
